Corded Petticoat

I finished up the corded petticoat yesterday! It's definitely not the best one out there.... but it works  well enough.  The hem is kinda pretty uneven also...  but I tell myself it's okay and that the back can be a little bit longer than the front.

If I were to have the patience to make another, I would definitely want to do the sandwich method of placing the cord in between two pieces of fabric rather than tucking the cord into the fabric. I never do measure well enough and I think that's why it came out shorter on one side.

So next I'll probably get the apron finished up and then finally get the dress done.

On the side I'm working on knitting a quilt (or a counterpane) shown here on Ravelry  or here on the knitting wiki . I also like this one too though. The second shell one looks a bit easier than the leaf pattern but I couldn't find size 12 cotton, only 10 and the leaf one calls for 10 and the shell for 12.  I think I'll try the shell one anyways with the size 10 cotton.

I'm Back!

I realize it's been ages since I've written on here. This year has been hard for me to get anything sewn. Living in a dorm I can't have my sewing machine here and I don't get much done on the weekends I go home.

At the moment though I am working on a Chenille blanket though it's going very slow since I only manage to sew a few lines on it each time I go home. I made one this past fall and it turned out great so I'm making a new one in pink and blue. I got the idea off of this blog- Aesthetic Nest. They are time consuming but they do turn out really beautiful! Plus, even if you make some mistakes it's very forgiving and they don't tend to show.

While I am at school I've been working on some knitting. I just started a 1940 turban hat that I found off of Ravelry. I'm still learning to knit, so I hope this comes out well!
Though it's not easy to sew at school, I've been stocking up on patterns! Spring Break is coming up and I'll have a whole week to work on my sewing! I'm definitely going to tackle some of the new patterns I have.

Knitting and Civil War dress!

I am determined to learn to knit so I can knit 1940 and 50 sweaters. I know a little bit so I thought I would just go ahead and start with a 1950 simple sweater pattern but I was way in over my head. So I'm starting with some simpler projects first. I haven't made any new dresses or garments for reenacting lately and I found a renewed interest so i'm practicing knitting making some 1860 garters from Godey's lady book. Then hopefully I'd like to try to make a knitted 1860 pattern for a hood and a shawl. I also found this pattern that I'd love to try!
Other than that I've finished another blouse from 1950, I just need to take pictures.
So until then I'll keep working on my knitting and hopefully I'll learn enough to make a sweater sometime soon!!
